Pocket Doors
In 2004 we got married, sold both houses
and 2 cars, moved into a new house, bought a new car and had a baby. Since there
wasn't a whole lot going on I thought I would open up the wall of my new home
office and replace the 28" door with a set of nice opposing pocket doors. The
open up into the loft making the office area seem much more open and free. Here
are a ton of pics I took during the construction in roughly chronological
order.
The challenges were immense. First of all, I had never done this before. There were 2 electrical lines running into the wall and one that ran attic to floor right in the middle of the spot where the doors would go. I had a lot of electrical work to do before I could even mess with the doors.
I removed the drywall, cut out 6 studs, added 2 modified pocket door frames then re-drywalled, spackled and re-trimmed. Carpet had to be added where the original wall had been and I ran a lot of cable through the remaining wall for wall-mount speakers, network cable, phones and tv cable. The biggest challenge was texturing the walls to match the rest of the house. I have a large compressor and decided to take a crack at it. It was not too bad. We had a VERY dusty house for a while but now that it is complete I love my office space!
